Jigjiga (SoRPARI): In an effort to address feed shortage, the Somali Region Pastoral and Agro-pastoral Research Institute (SoRPARI) tested the adaptability of numerous forage species so far and identified the promising ones for both the rain-fed and irrigated agro-ecologies of the Region. The varieties were further tested in different locations in different agro-ecological zones in the region in order to assess their wide acceptability and superior performance over the existing agricultural technologies specially that of forage technologies. Jigjiga (SoRPARI) 46 farmers and agro-pastoralists belonging to newly established four Farmers’ Resrach and Extension Groups (FREGs) and 4 Development Agents (DAs) received short term training from January 20 to 24,2011.
